Representation

As an industry, the Asian wedding sector contributes £3 billion to the UK economy. Despite this, our voices are not heard by the government, local authorities and other bodies that directly impact our businesses. AWAUK is changing this situation…

PARLIAMENT PROTEST
‘A Funeral for the Asian Wedding Industry’
AWAUK will be staging a theatrical Performance Protest at Parliament Square to highlight the many ways in which our industry has been excluded from many of the Government’s Covid-19 financial support packages.
As part of our campaign to represent the interests of our members and colleagues, AWAUK believes it is important to raise the profile of our industry to gain national media coverage and help influence the authorities to take our concerns seriously.
We would like all our members to participate fully in this day of action (scheduled for mid-December, subject to the ban on public protests being lifted).
This is your chance to get your voice heard – so please join the AWAUK now to receive full details about getting involved directly with this event.
For more information email admin@awauk.org or call us on 020 3925 0667.

The Asian wedding industry is in crisis. This high profile protest aims to get our voice heard for the first time at Downing Street and across the National Media’ – so please join us

COVID-19 CAMPAIGN COMMITTEE
AWAUK has formed a Covid-19 Campaign Committee to lobby support for the hundreds of wedding suppliers that have received little or no financial support from the Government during the Covid-19 crisis. In particular, we all regard event caterers as being part of the ‘hospitality’ industry – yet this sector has been denied the £25k Hospitality and Leisure Grant that thousands of other businesses received. The event catering sector has also been excluded from the Covid-19 Rates Relief Scheme – and this is another area that we are pressing hard for change. AWAUK has also joined a number of national mainstream organisations that share our common goals – this gives specialist Asian suppliers a strong, credible and united voice within the wider UK wedding and events industry.

Our industry was the first to be shut down by Covid-19 and will be the last to re-open. We need to stand united and demand our fair share of government support to save our businesses and secure employment for our staff
